Seasons in detail
High season (June - September)
This is the ideal period for kitesurfing in Mauritius. Southeast trade winds blow consistently between 18 and 25 knots. The sky is generally clear and water temperature remains pleasant around 23°C. Spots are well windy and accessible every day.
Shoulder season (May, October - November)
Transition period with variable but often excellent conditions. Wind can be a bit less regular but windy days remain frequent. Fewer people on the spots and often better rates.
Low season (December - April)
Cyclone period with less stable conditions. Wind blows mainly from the northeast, lighter and less consistent. Sessions are still possible, especially thanks to thermal breezes. Ideal for combining kite and island discovery.
Wind patterns
Mauritius benefits from several wind patterns that combine to offer excellent kite conditions:
- Trade winds: Dominant southeast winds, regular from May to November (15-25 knots).
- Thermal breezes: Reinforce the wind in the afternoon, especially on the west coast.
- Daily cycle: Wind typically picks up around 10-11am and stays stable until late afternoon.
