Kitesurfing spot at La Pointe - Le Morne, Mauritius
Located at the southwest end of the Le Morne lagoon, La Pointe is an exceptional kitesurfing area, prized for its powerful wind conditions, mythical wave zones and sporty atmosphere.
📝 Description
La Pointe du Morne is the most advanced part of the famous kitesurfing lagoon located at the foot of the Morne Brabant mountain. This is where experienced riders gather to take advantage of the reinforced wind and the proximity of passes that offer powerful waves.
In contrast to the center of the lagoon, which is calmer and suitable for beginners, La Pointe features deeper water, a direct wind direction, and quick access to the mythical waves of Manawa and One Eye.
🎯 Level
The La Pointe spot is reserved for experienced and autonomous kitesurfers. Navigation here is technical, often muscular, with chop and powerful waves in the vicinity.
It is not recommended that beginners venture into this area without supervision or excellent control of their equipment.
🌬️ Ideal wind conditions
The wind at La Pointe blows mainly from the sector southeast with a side-off to side-shore orientation depending on the tides and the season.
Here it is often stronger and laminar than in the rest of the lagoon, with gusts reaching 25 to 30 knots between May and October.
🗓️ Best season
The ideal time to sail La Pointe is between May and October, during the austral winter. The trade winds are steady and powerful, with ideal conditions for committed freeriding, surfkiting and big air.
In summer, conditions become more irregular. Sessions are possible but the wind can become light or unstable, making access to the passes more technical.
🛟 Safety
Navigation at La Pointe requires vigilance. The water here is deeper, the currents more marked if not powerful, and conditions can change rapidly, especially near the passes.
The spot is not supervised as such, but the ION club offers wave rescue if needed. Slippers are recommended for starting from the beach (coral and sea urchins), and a good knowledge of the water is essential.
Don't hesitate to ask the locals for advice for your first sessions.
The waves offshore are powerful and should only be tackled by riders comfortable in this type of conditions.
